Fall is a beautiful time of year to take in our area’s mountains and nature trails, so now’s the time to get your last few hikes in before the snow comes. Saratoga Springs
Hikes
Moreau Lake Blue Trail Overlook
The Moreau Lake Blue Trail Overlook is a moderately challenging route, taking about an hour and twenty-one minutes to finish, and the best time of year to hike it is February through November. The trailhead starts behind the picnic area and ends at the overlook. If you want an easier hike, then check out the Baker Trail. You can see Moreau Lake from the overlook, and on a sunny day, you can even see the Green Mountains in Vermont! Dogs are allowed on the trail but have to be on a leash.
Prospect Mountain
The Lake George area offers an abundance of hiking trails. One of the most popular is the Prospect Mountain trailhead, which starts alongside Smith Street in Lake George Village. The 2.9-mile hike peaks with a beautiful view of the southern part of Lake George. The summit also offers a picnic area and facts about the old tramway that was once the largest cable railway in the world!
Nature Trails
Geyser Loop Trail
The Geyser Loop Trail in the Saratoga Spa State Park is only a short drive away from downtown! This easy 2.9-mile trail takes just over an hour to complete and brings you to some incredible sights, such as the Geyser Island Spouter and the Orenda Spring. This trail is also dog-friendly, but your pet must be leashed.
Lake Bonita Loop
Lake Bonita has a 1.9-mile loop trail near Wilton. This easy trail takes about forty minutes to complete and is popular with people interested in outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. The trailhead is located right off Corinth Mountain Road. Follow the path, which loops around the lake with lookouts and benches to enjoy the foliage. Leashed dogs are also welcome on this trail.

BREIA Canal Trail
Looking for a more rigorous hike? Visit the moderately challenging BREIA Canal Trail at the Black River Environmental Improvement Association. This 14.4-mile trail near Boonville takes about four and a half hours, making it perfect for the experienced hiker or snowshoer. In addition to beautiful sights, this trail also has waterfalls and reportedly peaceful wildlife.
Root Glen
Want to do some exploring? Check out Root Glen, a moderately challenging 0.7-mile out-and-back trail with an elevation of 173 ft. This short route only takes about 24 minutes, which certainly makes it perfect for a quick walk with your leashed pup.
Nature Trails
Pitch Pine Bog Conservation Area Nature Trail
The Pitch Pine Bog Conservation Area Nature Trail is an easy 2.9-mile loop that takes just under an hour to complete. This route is popular for hiking, running, and walking, so expect to see some friendly faces along the way! The trail also allows dogs to be off-leash in some areas!
Erie Canalway Trail
Located in Bellamy Harbor Park, the Erie Canalway Trail is a 1.6-mile out-and-back. Taking about half an hour, this trail is also stroller-friendly and is perfect for the whole family to get out and enjoy! The route is also great for biking, running, and walking. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
